Turnips have a purple and white skin. They have a grassy, mellow flavor that can pack a radish kick. If eating raw, slice them up and coat with salt. Let sit for about 10 minutes then rinse and add to dishes. The salt will take care of the bite. If not, use a knife to peel off their thick skin and roast, steam or boil.
